Family Crest

Official band merch for devoted and discerning fans

  • Metalomania has always been Canadian owned and family operated since 2015. What started as a brick and mortar store in Montreal became a 100% e-commerce business during the pandemic. In 2022, Dion and Stephanie (a husband and wife team) purchased the business and the warehouse relocated to Calgary.
  • We have loved music and the bands that make it our whole lives. Displaying band posters in our rooms and wearing band t-shirts were important declarations of our passion at a young age, and we guess you could say, we never really grew out of it. It became core to who we are: champions of nonconformity and encouragers of defying conventional expectations.
  • Music unites us. It helps us celebrate our wins and grieve our losses. It's the soundtrack of our lives, the source of epic adventures, the maker of family memories, and a welcome escape into community and connection.

Why official merch matters

  • 69% of global music revenues come from streaming, but last year 87% of tracks were played fewer than 1,000 times.
  • Spotify (the largest streaming platform) only pays royalties once a track is streamed 1,000 times and even then the average royalty is just $0.004 per stream.
  • A licensed t-shirt sold through a retailer like Metalomania returns, on average, as much revenue to the band as 1,125 streams.
  • Licensing also ensures fans receive quality products, allows bands to retain control of their intellectual property and guarantees fair compensation.

What customers think

"Five ⭐s and I'll tell you why: the shipping was cheap and it came way faster than expected = ⭐. The patches match the photo, they're a solid size, and they came without creases = ⭐⭐⭐. I've been looking for an "Ashes of the Wake" patch (that wasn't total trash) to replace the one sewn on my first (best) vest (reallocated by my ex) for a long time = ⭐⭐. However! I couldn't spend the $145 on patches that I would have liked, so I'm forced to disqualify one ⭐ because life is pain... That comes to a tasty total of 5/5 ⭐s!" - Calvin
"I'm always happy with my purchases. Excellent quality and how is it even possible to have such a quick turnaround? Ordered on Thursday and in my hands by Monday. Amazing!" - Russ
"I've had nothing but wonderful experiences buying from your site -- and the fact you are a small family-owned Canadian business makes the vibes even better. Metalomania has definitely become my first stop when I'm looking for rock shirts / merch." - Derek
"Didn’t expect the quality to be this good. I'm very happy. The design is clean and it feels durable. Definitely buying again!" - Zakaria
"I recently ordered a few T-shirts and man what great service and quick delivery. Thanks metalomania you rock 🤘" - Craig

Meet our team

Dion

Dion, Operations

Dion grew up playing the saxophone in the school band and working every spare minute at the local gas station in rural Saskatchewan to save money for his motorcycle and various cars. Since gas stations offered full service back then, Dion developed hustle at a young age and was the only employee to consistently get 100% when secret shoppers visited the station. To this day, he can squeegee a windshield in seconds without a single line or streak, and he performs all the maintenance and repairs on our vehicles. Coming of age in the late 1980s and early 90s, hard rock, metal and then grunge were the soundtrack of his life. As a musician himself, he always enjoyed live music and would attend any concert. Since buying Metalomania, he and Steph can justify buying tickets to just about any band anywhere, so their music repertoire is continually expanding. Dion also enjoys getting to know and serving customers.
Steph

Steph, Marketing

Steph's love affair with music started at age 7 when her best friend introduced her to Blondie. At 9 she received her first cassette player for Christmas and started collecting music. By 14, kids she didn't know would pass her in the hall at school and hand her a blank cassette tape for a mix. (Her extensive record collection and the stereo she had saved two years to buy had given her a reputation.) At 15 she landed a job at Calgary's Olympic Saddledome. As an usher, she was paid to see hundreds of concerts and her music and merch obsession really took off! By the time she graduated high school she was spending every penny she earned on CDs and band merch. (On a school trip to the UK she brought back enormous posters of The Clash and The Smiths from London's oldest record shop.) Life has changed in the years since, but her love for the bands, live music, and the community of fans remains the same.
